You have lots of options when you return for another year of City Year

Did you know that many of City Year’s AmeriCorps members want to serve again with us when their first year of service is over?

Some want to continue to work with students while they enter an affordable graduate program, such as education.

Others seek to gain new skills and earn a stipend while they figure out their next steps.

And still other alums want to try a new role with additional leadership responsibilities.

This year, we are honored that nearly 1 in 4 of City Year AmeriCorps members are serving an additional year.

You’ll have plenty of options to choose from if you decide you want to serve a second or even third year with City Year.

Options to serve as a returning AmeriCorps member 

Currently serving City Year AmeriCorps members who are interested in serving another year can apply online; please check out the Return for Another Year webpage for updates and additional information.

When you return for another year of service, you have several options about what your service experience will be.

In-school service options: 

Second-year corps member: You want to continue to see your students grow and build on the skills you developed as a first-year corps member by directly supporting students in the classroom and being a guide to your teammates as they embark on their first City Year.

Team leader: You’ll support and coach a team of first-year AmeriCorps members while working closely with your school administrator and partner teachers to help ensure the success of students.

Service leader: In this role, you’ll lead and support a team of first-year AmeriCorps members while continuing your work with students in the classroom (offered in select sites).

Teaching fellow: Your first year of service convinced you that you want to become a teacher. City Year offers various affordable and accessible pathways into the teaching profession including a multiyear teacher preparation program, modeled after medical residency training.

Alternative opportunities: Want to continue to support students but can’t serve longer hours?  Returning as a School Day Learning Coach (1,200-hour or 900-hour) or Afterschool Enrichment Coach could be right for you.

Out-of-school service options: 

Team Care Force: The Care Force team is looking for returning AmeriCorps members who are passionate about physical service to join us for another year of service on the CSX sponsored Team Care Force.

Civic Engagement Teams: Civic Engagement teams are made up of AmeriCorps members who plan, prepare and execute large-scale transformational service events throughout the year.

These events may engage corporate, community and student volunteers benefiting the service partner. Service partners often include but are not limited to existing City Year partner schools.
