Deloitte Design Challenge 2017: Hack-a-Box

Deloitte has brought the Iridescent Design Challenge experience to sixth through eighth grade students at O.W. Holmes Middle School since 2016. Fluor Cares Day at Francisco "Pancho" Medrano Middle School

AmeriCorps Service Leader Laura Van Horn shares about Fluor Cares Day, an event where volunteers from Francisco "Pancho" Medrano Middle School's Math Sponsor, Fluor Corporation, come to campus to spend time with students working on engaging STEM activities. The event is held in science classrooms across 6th, 7th and 8th grade and the activities are provided by our nonprofit and community partners at Dallas Afterschool and their program, Wonder Kits.

Our AmeriCorps members are experiencing the first day of school from a new perspective, and AmeriCorps Service Leader Nicole Cooney who has returned to City Year Dallas for a second year as a Service Leader, has some sage advice. When it comes to meeting students on this first day, she says "we may not know them yet, but soon our students will become the motivation for early mornings, late nights, and everything that happens in between."
