Last month, City Year Dallas and T-Mobile partnered together to stuff over 4,100 backpacks for every student in the 6 @dallasisd Schools we serve! These backpacks and supplies will allow students to come back to school ready to learn and grow!

City Year Dallas is saddened by the loss of our Corps Member Alumni, Laura Van Horn. Laura served 2017 and 2018 at Medrano Middle School in an 8th grade math classroom, where her love for math took root. She went on to serve as a math teacher through our CY Fellowship in Denver— Laura was passionate about finding ways to help students grasp tough concepts and she understood what it was like to learn in unique ways. LVH had a knack for being open to growing just as much as her students, she never expected something that she wouldn’t also give. She was patient, kind and often found herself as the listening ear for her students and teammates--her goofy yet anchored in her why personality made her the perfect friend for anyone! You always knew just how much Laura cared. She will be truly missed but her mark on us will always be with us! Donations can be made in Laura’s honor to the Mountain West Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
We are so grateful for the support of the @santander_usa Foundation and @operationhopehq for their support of City Year Dallas Corps Members through the Operation Hope Financial Literacy and coaching program! Operation Hope has provided monthly financial literacy programming to our Corps and personalized coaching financial coaching to our Corps Members as they work toward their financial goals. Upon completion of the program, participating corps members received $1,000 to invest or use based on their new learnings. Because of the success of the program and the investment from Santander Consumer USA, this program is now present in 15 cities where @CityYear serves, enrolling over 400 corps members in the program. A special thank you to the leadership of the Santander Consumer USA Foundation and Operation Hope for their investment in our work and the lives of our Corps Members! #investment #communitypartnership #financialliteracy
