Dominic struggled to focus on learning in school. He once acted out & a City Year stopped to give me advice. She didn't have to, but she saw a student in need & decided to help. That act of kindness inspired him. Today he serves to help others even when I don't have to, just like her.

AmeriCorps Member & Her Partner Teacher Share Reflections on Tulsa's Black History

Jasmine and her partner teacher often discuss how and why she chose to become a teacher in Tulsa, OK, and what she knew about its history before coming here with Teach For America. Being born and raised in Tulsa, Jasmine wanted to share her hometown’s history with her teacher. After talking and sharing stories with each other, they decided to take students on a field trip to Black Wall Street.
