Introducing City Year Philly’s New 2021-22 School Partners

Fall weather is gradually settling in, and the 2021-22 school year is well underway! This year, City Year Philadelphia is excited to be back serving in person at 17 schools in neighborhoods all throughout the city. You can view a map of our partner schools below.

We are thrilled to welcome five new school partners this year: Avery D. Harrington Elementary School, John F. Hartranft School, Lewis Elkin Elementary School, Luis Muñoz-Marin Elementary School, and Tanner G. Duckrey School (a returning former partner school). Avery D. Harrington Elementary School

Neighborhood: West Philadelphia

Grades: K-8

Student Enrollment: 395

Principal: Mr. Alonzo Fulton

Mission: Our school is a community that inspires excellence, scholarship and creativity through intellectual and social engagement. We aim to prepare all scholars to be successful for high school and postsecondary opportunities by providing rigorous academic curriculum, diverse extra-curricular activities, and tools for college and career readiness. Our extraordinary scholars, great families, and dynamic teachers represent the finest in the School District of Philadelphia.

 

John F. Hartranft School

Neighborhood: Kensington

Grades: K-8

Student Enrollment: 447

Principal: Mr. Keith Arrington

Mission: John F. Hartranft is dedicated to the success of every student; through the combined effort of staff, students, parents, and the community, John F. Hartranft will educate, empower, and enable all students to become caring, lovers of learning that are equipped to succeed and lead in the world of today and tomorrow. We promote teaching by example, working together, and appreciating multicultural diversity amongst all students and staff. Our success will be based on a caring environment and achieved with the active participation of students, parents, staff members, and the community. With involvement, there is commitment and we at John F. Hartranft believe that what we do makes a difference in the lives of others.

Lewis Elkin Elementary School

Neighborhood: Kensington

Grades: K-4

Principal: Ms. Charlotte Maddox

Mission: Lewis Elkin Elementary School is dedicated to engaging our students and their families in academically challenging and culturally relevant instruction. Through collaboration with community partners, we commit to creating a safe, nurturing environment that values the social emotional well-being of our community. Our students are empowered and motivated to accept and embrace who they are and appreciate the differences in others, realizing their true potential as life-long learners.

 

Luis Muñoz-Marin Elementary School

Neighborhood: Fairhill/Kensington

Grades: K-8

Student Enrollment: 594

Principal: Ms. Amanda Jones

Mission: The Hon. Luis Muñoz Marín Elementary School is in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia on 3300 North 3rd Street. We are a Title I dual-language school serving students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Our school provides a holistic educational experience that pushes all students towards academic excellence and social responsibility. Our school community offers a variety of supports and programs that promote academic and behavioral advancement for all students. Muñoz-Marín also supports students’ creativity and expression through the arts and peer interactions.

Tanner G. Duckrey School

Neighborhood: North Philadelphia

Grades: K-8

Principal: Mr. David Cohen

Mission: Our mission is to educate all students to proficiency and beyond through the delivery of quality instruction, utilizing best instructional practices, provided by highly qualified, nurturing, compassionate teachers, school staff, and community stakeholders, in partnership with parents to develop independent, successful, productive members of society.

City Year Philly is currently accepting applications for our mid-year term of service! This full-time role begins on December 6 and continues through the end of the school year in June. Apply by November 15.
