Wells Fargo Donates 900 Backpacks to Students

Students First, Collaboration Always. We know that through partnerships and a collective focus on helping students succeed, we all thrive. Thanks to a grant provided by Wells Fargo, a longtime supporter of A Gift for Teaching and sponsors of 10 City Year AmeriCorps members serving at Judson B. Walker Middle School, we were able to come together to gift 900 backpacks for students at Walker – ready for them when they returned to school.

City Year Orlando Impact Director, Ali Murbe, said of the in-kind contribution, We are grateful to Wells Fargo and A Gift for Teaching for their contribution and impact. Their commitment to equity has enabled each student to start the year with the supplies they need to be successful. We know that when children can show up ready to learn, they can achieve anything.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow, Wells Fargo has used their resources to help bring relief to our communities by quickly deploying relief efforts, supporting nonprofits and small businesses. Wells Fargo has also helped support COVID-19 needs by allowing flexibility in the repurposing of their grants awarded to local nonprofits and continuing to prioritize the needs that affect people in the areas of small business, financial health, and housing. Three areas that are critical to COVID-19 recovery.

More about A Gift for Teaching: A Gift For Teaching (AGFT) is Central Florida’s primary provider of free school supplies to teachers for their students. With a mission to empower teachers to inspire future leaders, AGFT has distributed more than $135 million worth of essential supplies since 1998. The Great Big Backpack Build afforded AGFT a way to bring community partners together to fill more than 12,000 backpacks with learning tools for the new school year. Thanks to long-time supporter Wells Fargo, 900 of the backpacks are being distributed to students at Walker Middle School.
