Celebrating 15 Years of Serving Miami’s Students

In 2022-2023, City Year Miami is celebrating its 15th Birthday and we’re so excited to be going #backtobasics! Join us for a year-long celebration!

What’s Back to Basics?

• 1988: City Year was founded as a national service program to unite young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development and civic engagement. Our founding vision was that, one day, the most commonly asked question of a young person would be: “Where will you do your service year?” City Year served as an inspiration for AmeriCorps, through which more than 1 million Americans have served their community and country since 1993.
• 2003: City Year played a leading role in founding Voices for National Service, a coalition, operated by City Year, of leading service organizations that has generated bipartisan support for protecting and growing the federal commitment to voluntary national service.
• 2005: City Year launched its evidence-based Whole School Whole Child model, focusing its mission to serve exclusively in systemically under-resourced public schools, with the goal of ensuring that more students are on track to graduate from high school, ready to succeed in college, career and civic life, while also developing our AmeriCorps members as leaders.
• 2008: City Year Miami was founded

For our 15th birthday, we’re infusing some of our founding principles into our work. While our focus remains impact on education, we will be engaging in 15 community-based service events throughout the 2022-2023 school year. Join us, celebrate with us and invest in our work!
