City Year Sacramento '15

CJ graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2015 and promptly moved to Sacramento to begin her service with City Year. In her four years working with the organization, she developed a deeper understanding of how inequitable the education system can be, specifically for historically marginalized communities. This realization sparked a passion for learning more about social justice and education reform so she could better work to empower and serve her students and community. After four years with the organization, CJ has since moved on to work with United Way California Capital Region as the lead program coordinator for the Kindergarten to College Savings Program, where she can continue to provide resources to students and families in the form of college savings accounts and financial empowerment workshops. The City Year value, Belief in the Power of Young People continues to keep her grounded and passionate in her new work and involvement with the alumni board.
