Am I eligible to enroll in the referral program?

Enrollment in the City Year Referral Program is limited to active and current AmeriCorps and staff, confirmed corps members serving in the 2022-2023 school year, and City Year alumni:

  • Confirmed 2022-2023 AmeriCorps member is defined as anyone confirmed to serve as a first year or returning City Year AmeriCorps Member for the 2022-2023 school year.
  • Currently serving (2021-2022) AmeriCorps member is defined as anyone who is currently serving as an AmeriCorps Member during the 2021-2022 school year both as a first year or returning member. This excludes those currently serving as AmeriCorps Member during the 2021-2022 school year who have confirmed to serve as a returning AmeriCorps member for the 2022-2023 school year.
  • Staff member is defined as anyone who is employed by City Year under any employment status and has been issued a cityyear.org email address, including Alumni on staff. This excludes AmeriCorps Members, those who work for the Recruitment & Admissions Team (ACM Talent Acquisition downline in Workday) and those who hold a Community Partnerships Manager or Local Recruiter title at a site.
  • Alumni is defined as anyone who has completed a City Year AmeriCorps year and graduated. This excludes alumni who are currently serving AmeriCorps members, confirmed 2022-2023 AmeriCorps members or are current City Year staff members.

All audiences will be offered incentives for participating in the referral program. To participate, an individual must enroll in the program by signing up through the registration link on or after March 31, 2022.

How do I sign up?

If you meet the eligibility requirements listed above, you can enroll in the program. Your referral program registration link was included in an email to you on March 31, 2022 (or one week after you accepted your offer to serve if you’ve recently confirmed to serve as a 2022-2023 City Year AmeriCorps member.)

When you enroll in the program, you can access your referral link in two ways. First is on the enrollment page. After registering, your unique link should appear on the page, along with some social media prompts for you to share.

Additionally, your unique link will be emailed to you shortly after you enroll. Be sure to check your junk and spam filters if you’re not seeing it in your inbox.

There’s an error loading the page for my referral link. What do I do?

Your short, unique URL should re-direct to a secure page, where your referrals can enter their information and learn more about City Year. Some users have reported issues with the page not loading or redirecting properly. If that occurs, make sure you’ve disabled any ad-blocking plugins you might have on your browser. If the issue persists, try opening the link in a new browser. We recommend Chrome browser, or Safari, for the best performance.

 

I referred someone to City Year before this program launched – does that count?

Thank you so much for recommending a talented individual to join our program! Unfortunately, only new referrals made from your unique referral link after enrolling in the program and through the campaign period are eligible for rewards.

How do I know if my referrals are applying?

Out of privacy for our applicants, we are not able to let you know the application or confirmation status of any of your referrals.

You will be contacted via email if you’re eligible for a reward. More about the payment schedules can be found in the terms and conditions.

How do I earn the incentives?

All referral program enrollees are eligible to receive a $100 Visa gift card for every new referral you send us who accepts their invitation to serve as a first year City Year AmeriCorps Member for the 2022-2023 school year.

Additionally, ataff, alumni and currently serving (2021-2022) City Year AmeriCorps members who are not returning to serve in 2022-2023 are eligible to receive an additional $400 Visa gift card per eligible confirmed City Year AmeriCorps member who persists through the start of their service year.

Is there a cap/limit to the amount of money I can earn?

No, there is no limit to the amount of incentives you can earn through the referral program. We’re grateful for the talent you’ve introduced to our organization and we thank you for helping ensure our students have great mentors and tutors next year.

Please note, that City Year holds the right to withhold payments while investigating any suspected abuse of the program or change the terms of the program without advanced notice.

I’m currently serving but returning to serve in the 2022-2023 school year, why am I not eligible to earn rewards for my referrals who persist to service?

Because of AmeriCorps regulations, we’re not able to pay our program incentives to corps members while they are actively serving. As a result, if you’re returning to serve with us next year, we must process all your incentives between your graduation and the start of your next service term. Unfortunately, at that time we will not know the persistence status of any of your referrals.

When you’ll receive your rewards depends on whether you’re an AmeriCorps member, staff or an alum.

2022-2023 AmeriCorps Members

Eligible 2022-2023 City Year AmeriCorps members will receive $100 Visa gift card(s) via email on June 21, 2022.

Currently Serving (2021-2022) AmeriCorps Members

Eligible currently serving (2021-2022) City Year AmeriCorps members, which excludes those returning to serve another year for the 2022-2023 school year, will receive $100 Visa gift card(s) via email on the dates below.

  • June 27, 2022
  • July 29, 2022
  • August 26, 2022
  • September 9, 2022

$400 Visa gift card(s) will be distributed to all eligible recipients via email one week after the final 2022-2023 first year AmeriCorps Member start date September 9, 2022.

Staff & Alumni

Eligible staff and Alumni will receive $100 Visa gift card(s) via email one week after each confirmation deadline.

I’m a staff member who enrolled but recently transitioned out of the organization. Will I still receive my incentives?

Yes. Enrolled staff members who leave their staff roles before the program completion dates, are still eligible to receive their incentives.

If at any time a staff member’s employment status with City Year is terminated, the staff member will receive the benefits they have accrued through the date in which they leave. If that is not after the date for beginning service, they then become ineligible for the $400 incentive.
