Plan & prepare
By prioritizing and planning, you can live in Memphis on your City Year stipend. The information and resources below will help you prepare for your year (or two) of service.
Your stipend
AmeriCorps members serving as student success coaches will receive a living stipend of $1,000 (pre-tax) biweekly, and afterschool enrichment coaches will receive a living stipend of $530 (pre-tax) biweekly. Budgeting ahead of time is key to help make the stipend cover your expenses! Your Service Year Adviser will share resources throughout the year to help you budget and plan expenses. Reach out if you need any additional support!
National benefits
In addition to your stipend, you’ll also receive health insurance, access to Employee Assistance and Talkspace Therapy programs, as well as relocation support.
Local benefits
In addition to national benefits, we also organize “Corps Member corner” with various home and food resources corps members may need and “Choose 901” cards that offer discounts to local restaurants and stores
On a professional development side, for those interested in becoming a teacher or educator, you’ll also have access to sessions led by various teacher pathways partners in advance of joining that teacher preparation program.
Your student loans may be eligible for forbearance
You may be eligible to have the repayment of a qualified student loan temporarily postponed while you are serving. While a loan is in forbearance, the individual is not required to make payments. Learn more on AmeriCorps’ website to see if you’re eligible and how to apply
Whether you are relocating or a longtime resident of Memphis, you will benefit by having a housing plan in place before service begins.
Keep yourself organized and ready for registration day.
