With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, Denver is a place that makes your future look bright. Our AmeriCorps members help students feel welcome and connected to their school community, develop their strengths, and persist through challenges.
While Denver is widely known for being a vibrant center for academia, business, tech and medicine, some students in Denver face significant challenges every day. As the largest school district in Colorado, the Denver School District serves more than 93,356 students across 207 schools.
City Year helps students succeed in school and that’s why I love this organization. No matter who you are or where you come from, I am a pair of listening ears and helping hands. I serve as a mentor to my students and have successfully helped build positive relationships and strong coping skills.

Your corps experience
City Year is a key partner to the Denver School District in creating equitable learning opportunities for all students and develop the city’s future leaders. AmeriCorps members support teachers and staff in delivering instruction that serves the development of the whole child and is responsive to the diverse racial, cultural and linguistic needs of Denver youth.
With more than 76% of students tutored by AmeriCorps members last year improving their test scores, AmeriCorps members are truly making an impact. A close-knit community with ample opportunities to develop meaningful personal and professional relationships, Denver is an ideal place to serve. By engaging students, families and community organizations, City Year helps DPS ensure that there are great schools in every neighborhood throughout Denver. For both City Year and DPS, this starts with schools that focus on the whole child and that cultivate environments where students can be healthy, supported, engaged, challenged, safe and socially and emotionally intelligent.
Serving in Denver schools
Serve in one of 11 elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Denver area. Located throughout the city, our school partnerships span from the northwest, southwest, near northeast and far northeast parts of Denver. This geographic diversity allows AmeriCorps members to learn about the rich history of our city while making a difference in the lives of its young people.
Work with a committed and diverse team of City Year AmeriCorps members who share your passion for service and personal growth.
While here, you and your teammates will be supported by a thoughtful, diverse and experienced Impact staff. Collectively, City Year Denver’s Impact staff has a vast amount of previous AmeriCorps, teaching, youth development and international service experience in programs including City Year, Reading Partners, Mile High Youth Corps, Teach for America and Peace Corps. Most importantly, the entire staff at City Year Denver is united by their belief in the power of AmeriCorps members and the positive benefits they are able to drive at schools throughout Denver and the country.
Professional development
AmeriCorps members serving with City Year Denver receive professional development aimed to strengthen their skills to work with students in schools. Additionally, AmeriCorps Members are provided with training and other opportunities to promote the acquisition of tangible, transferable skills that they can use beyond their year of service.
Community involvement
Through their service with City Year, AmeriCorps members create a positive climate of high expectations and engagement that ripples throughout the greater Denver community. In addition to providing excellent service and support to schools throughout DPS, AmeriCorps members engage in other service projects with local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Food Bank of the Rockies, GrowHaus, etc. AmeriCorps members also work throughout the year with local businesses in order to garner targeted supports for their partner schools.
