City Year is proud to partner with the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, a nationally recognized graduate social work program committed to achieving social, racial, economic and political justice, offering a minimum 25% annual tuition scholarships.

The University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work offers City Year AmeriCorps members, alums and staff

25% scholarships

Each year, the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work offers up to two City Year applicants a minimum of 25% tuition scholarship for the full-time, face-to-face Master of Social Work program. The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years for up to two years.

Scholarships are awarded to City Year AmeriCorps members and alums who complete at least one term of service and City Year staff employed for at least two years.

The scholarships described above represent the minimum awards; applicants can be considered for additional merit-based aid depending on the academic strength of their application.

  • Enrollment deferral: If a City Year applicant is admitted to the Graduate College of Social Work, they also receive the possibility of a one-year deferral on admission.

To identify your City Year affiliation and apply for the scholarship

To identify your affiliation with City Year and be considered for the scholarship, please indicate your service or employment with City Year on the Master of Social Work application, under “supplemental questions.”

To access the application fee waiver and apply for the scholarship

To receive instructions for the application fee waiver, email gcswinfo@uh.edu before submitting your application. Please allow three to five business days to receive the instructions. Please note that the admissions office is unable to provide refunds for applications submitted without the fee waiver code.

To be considered for the scholarship, a service verification letter must be requested by emailing alumni@cityyear.org with “University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work” in the subject line. Within the email, include the site where you served and your AmeriCorps graduation month and year. This letter will be sent electronically by City Year back to the applicant, and the applicant should then upload the letter to their application.
