Check out our 2018 MLK Day event feature on Fox 5

As a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service to others, City Year considers Martin Luther King Day as a day ‘on’ not ‘off’. Each MLK Day, City Year mobilizes its 3,300 AmeriCorps members and about a thousand more volunteers for a day of service in communities across the nation. In coordination with local partners, City Year AmeriCorps members and volunteers engage in service projects that include painting schools, beautifying neighborhoods and parks, serving in soup kitchens, supporting senior citizens, and running educational activities for children.

This year we are working to beautify the historic Deanwood neighborhood in Northeast, DC; including Ron Brown High School, IDEA Public Charter School, Kelly Miller Middle School, and Deanwood Recreation Center. Projects will include painting murals and accents, light construction, organization, kit-making and a resource fair for youth and community members.
