Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
Join us for a day on not a day off at our annual MLK Day of Service to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King
As a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service to others, City Year considers Martin Luther King Day as a day ‘on’ not ‘off’. Each MLK Day, City Year mobilizes its 3,300 AmeriCorps members and thousands of volunteers for a day of service in communities across the nation. In coordination with local partners, City Year AmeriCorps members and volunteers engage in service projects that include painting schools, beautifying neighborhoods and parks, and assembling community resource kits. Check out photos from last year’s event at this link!
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Advanced Registration is required to volunteer with us. The deadline to sign up is Thursday January 16 at 12pm.
Where are we serving this year?
This year we’ll be serving at three DC Public Schools along the H Street Corridor:
Stuart-Hobson Middle School
Directions: 410 E St NE
Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School
Directions: 659 G St NE
J.O. Wilson Elementary School
Directions: 660 K St NE
All schools are accessible via public transportation, including bus, rail, and streetcar. Only limited street parking is available around each, so driving is not recommended. Coach bus parking is available in the Union Station parking garage nearby. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific school location for check-in via email a few days in advance of the event.
What do I need to do before the day of the event?
Step #1: Print and sign your volunteer waiver(s).
Click here to download a waiver for each registered adult and child who will be volunteering. Fill out the waiver completely and bring a paper copy with you to your check-in location on the day of the event.
Step #2: Check your email regularly for updates on your specific check-in location and e-ticket.
Step #3: Save, screenshot, or print your e-ticket and bring it with you on the day of the event.
