Wondering what your year of service will look like?
Although each school is different, we compiled some basic information to help you get a better idea of what your day to day will look like. We highly suggest attending our virtual sessions to learn more and ask questions to AmeriCorps members who have served in the past or are currently serving. Service can look different, but the strong relationships you make with your students is a universal experience for all City Year members!
Check out the videos below from City Year Denver and Seattle, which we think sum it up perfectly!
Our partner schools for 2022-2023:
- Aki Kurose Middle School
- Concord International Elementary School
- Denny International Middle School
- Highland Park Elementary School
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School
- Rising Star at African American Academy
- South Shore PK-8 School
- Wing Luke Elementary School

Extra leadership opportunities
All AmeriCorps members will have the opportunity to be a part of a site committee. Committees are a great opportunity to connect with AmeriCorps members from other schools, work with staff members and grow professionally. Here are the committees we’ve had in the past at our site:
- Learning and Development Committee
- Race and Equity Committee
- External Relations Committee / City Year Ambassadors
- Civic Engagement Committee
- Corps Council
DEI and affinity groups
During your time at City Year, you will have the opportunity to explore hard topics in a safe space. Every year we hold multiple Race and Equity Summits led by our Race and Equity Director. Additionally, both City Year Seattle and City Year National hold Affinity Spaces.
Professional development opportunities
A big focus at City Year Seattle / King County is growing our professional development opportunities. Some of the supports we offer are: résumé and cover letter workshops, networking opportunities and lunch and learns with local universities and professionals. And, at the end of the year you’ll also be connected to our alumni network.
