A word from our Executive Director Pete Settelmayer

A word from our Executive Director/Vice President Pete Settelmayer:

Dear Friends of City Year,

After a whirlwind 10 months, the 2017-2018 school year has come to a bittersweet end. This past year yielded many remarkable accomplishments and advancements, including refining our organizational practices, implementing innovative new pilot programs unique to City Year San José/Silicon Valley, honoring the impressive legacy of Adobe Systems CEO, Shantanu Narayen, during a splendid Starry Starry Night gala at Levi’s Stadium, and hosting a number of successful service days to beautify the spaces our students traverse each day. This fruitful year officially concluded with our annual AmeriCorps Member Graduation at Nutanix on Friday, June 15th. While it’s always difficult to part with another corps, we’re excited to see this outstanding group of young idealists flourish in pursuing their future endeavors. Moreover, we’re delighted to have a handful of individuals return to perform an additional year of service with us either as team leaders or second-year AmeriCorps members.

Looking ahead, the upcoming school year will feature our growth into Mt. Pleasant High School, an expansion that will enable our 146 AmeriCorps members to serve over 8,000 students in 14 schools next year, including two complete feeder patterns. The opportunity to further scale our impact in East San José by partnering with such a vibrant, high-potential school community was only made possible by your unwavering support of our work! Thank you for all you do to make our moonshot of realizing educational equity in Silicon Valley all the more attainable!
