School House Rock
EVENT POSTPONED INDEFINITELY! Join us at School House Rock on March 12th to celebrate a year of student success and community impact!
We have decided to indefinitely postpone our School House Rock gala due to covid-19 concerns and the continued restrictions on gatherings. The safety of our staff, our AmeriCorps members, our partners and our community is a top priority for us, and we hope you understand this decision.
We cannot say thank you enough to our incredible Chairs: Caryn Rodgers-Battiste and Todd Battiste; our more-than deserving honorees: Cheryl Landrieu, Rose Reynolds, and Taco Bell Foundation; and our devoted Host Committee Members.
Although we are unable to have the gala this year, we are incredibly proud that City Year’s service in New Orleans has continued without interruption throughout the pandemic. When schools went virtual in March, our AmeriCorps members shifted to assisting teachers in google classrooms, helping with homework via email, and making check-in calls to students and families. Over the summer our school partners affirmed the value-add of City Year despite the challenges posed by the covid-19, and in July our new corps began service in schools—preparing materials for virtual learning and planning for when students return to classrooms.
A staple of School House Rock is the AmeriCorps members’ Chronicles presentation. The Chronicles tells the story of their service year, and although you could not see it in person, we are thrilled to share this video version with you.
