AmeriCorps Member Spotlight: Meet Ricquele!
Hello! I am Ricquele Brooks, first-year AmeriCorps member at City Year and I proudly serve on the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County team serving at James Madison Academic Campus.
I serve with City Year because I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. I didn’t have people like City Year in my life as a kid growing up that I needed or even a real mentor. I was always scared to open up when I struggled at things in the classroom. But putting myself in the opposite shoes to help kids like I was at their age is something I look forward to. I serve in the Algebra, 9th grade classroom. My joy is seeing students understand the materials we give them to be successful. I serve alongside with the most outstanding, wonderful, smartest teammates ever. Team time is one of our best ways of getting to know one another better.
To tell you a bit more about myself. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. I’m 21 years old and I am a Sagittarius. My favorite colors are pink, green, and yellow. I love music and enjoy sunsets. Also, city views at night in car rides are the best!! My go to fast food meal is a large plate of cheesy fries and a nice juicy burger (yummy). I have a sweet new kitty name Stomi and I love her so much. I grew up with two older brothers and one older sister and one baby sister. I am a very optimistic person and love seeing elderly couples dance together as if they were young; I think is very romantic.
It’s been an honor to serve with City Year Milwaukee this school year!!!
