City Year brings CommunityAmerica, Chiefs and Royals together to recognize school nurses during the surge

These are challenging times for all that are working in schools. Re-engaging students after a year of virtual learning while navigating the added stressors of COVID-19 is not easy to say the least and yet, we continue to witness passionate individuals rise to the occasion. At our City Year partner schools, one group of individuals we’ve witnessed manage additional tasks while prioritizing the health and safety of students and colleagues are our school nurses. Their roles in our schools are always essential and during this pandemic, the critical nature of their work has been amplified.

In recognition of the dedicated work of our school nurses, City Year Kansas City brought together our incredible Team Sponsors – CommunityAmerica Credit Union, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals – to say thank you. Team Sponsors generously donated self-care items, branded swag, gift cards, and other fun items to all the school nurses working across our 7 school partners in Kansas City, MO.

“We are proud to help celebrate the nursing and COVID support staffs at our City Year schools for their tireless dedication to ensuring the health and wellbeing of students,” Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. “We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for so many as we’ve all navigated the pandemic, and this was just a small way that the Chiefs and the Hunt Family Foundation could say ‘thank you.’”

Chris Major, Director of Community Partnerships & Events at the Kansas City Royals, stated, “School nurses have such a vital role in our schools and a tremendous impact on the health and education of our children. It is important to the entire Royals family that nurses know how much we appreciate their phenomenal work.”

“CommunityAmerica Credit Union recognizes the critical role that school nurses are playing in ensuring the health of children during these challenging times,” says Kathryn Harvel, Executive Director of Community Engagement at CommunityAmerica Credit Union. “We are proud to join with our partners the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals and City Year Kansas City with a show of our gratitude to nurses and other health personnel working in Kansas City Public Schools.”

Despite the challenges, it’s a privilege to serve in the schools we do. City Year Kansas City is grateful to collaborate with talented school faculty and supportive sponsors willing to unite for a meaningful cause and worthwhile appreciation.
