A thank you note from staff

Day in and day out, our AmeriCorps members dedicate themselves to a cause greater than self. The work they do everyday is at the heart of our organization—whether that is helping a student gain confidence in the City Year room at school or improving their own professional skills here at the City Year office. As staff, we are sometimes removed from the “front lines” of service in schools, so our AmeriCorps members are there to remind us why we come into work every morning. For what is sometimes a thankless job, the City Year Jacksonville staff would like to share why they appreciate our AmeriCorps members!

“I appreciate our AmeriCorps members for showing up to serve students every day, despite the challenges that come with working in public education AND the long hours required of them. The kids are their motivation—but they are mine.”
– Jaime, learning and development manager

“Something that I appreciate about our corps is their dedication. Being a City Year AmeriCorps member isn’t always an easy role—especially if this is someone’s first job! We have experienced many wonderful things this year and many obstacles. One thing that has impressed me throughout this year is how hard our Corps works to get things done regardless of what challenges they may face. Thank you for all that you do!”
– Wyatt, impact manager

“I appreciate our corps members because they demonstrate incredible grit, resilience and determination day in and day out. They are true examples of what it means to put love into action, and they are the reason I continue to serve.”
– Lauren, impact manager

“Our members give up their fair-market value for a year to pour everything they have into their students. I am grateful for the presence on our school campuses and the untold ripples of hope they create.”
– Tom, managing director of development

“I appreciate our AmeriCorps members for their passionate commitment to the mission of City Year! They work physically and mentally taxing long hours, yet they invest day after day in the lives of these students entrusted to them. Our AmeriCorps members see their role as more than just a ‘job.’ I admire this quality more than anything.”
– Paul, development director of corporate partnerships

“I admire our AmeriCorps members for doing what they do for 10 hours every day with a smile, despite the challenges that inevitably surface. I appreciate their persistence, determination and ability to stick it out throughout their year of service.”
– Denise, senior operations manager

“I value how committed our AmeriCorps members are to witnessing their students’ realities, being bold advocates by raising up voices on their behalf and loving students from the depths of their hearts. It is inspiring to see and hear them stand tall for children with SO much courage. Thank you City Year JAX AmeriCorps members! Happy AmeriCorps Member Appreciation Month!”
– James, managing director of impact

“I appreciate our AmeriCorps members for the energy and positivity they bring into City Year’s space and our partner schools. Their contagious positive attitudes leave such a clear impact on their students and the community.”
– Becca, development operations and communications coordinator
