It’s all about the AmeriCorps Experience
When you join City Year, you work alongside a team to create learning environments where all students can succeed. As you earn a stipend, you help support students’ social, emotional, and academic development while providing schools with additional capacity to enhance learning and belonging. It’s not simply about building positive relationships with students, it’s helping students build better relationships with themselves. Helping them understand how able they are to overcome obstacles. By leading after-school programs and organizing activities that improve the overall school environment, your role is to create an environment where students can thrive.
In order to succeed at this mission, it’s our job at City Year Detroit to ensure that along with our students, we create a space where our AmeriCorps members can thrive too. A year of service can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but it’s not without its challenges. That is why when we were thinking about the year ahead, we knew that we wanted to put the AmeriCorps experience at the top of our priority list by creating a new role called the AmeriCorps Member Experience Director (aka ACME).
In this new role, the ACME Director is responsible for ensuring our entire Corps has a positive service experience and develops into leaders for life. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Impact, they have broad responsibilities to ensure site-wide activities align to support the AmeriCorps Member experience and individual skill development. Additionally, they are responsible for managing communication with the corps regarding site policies, collecting feedback to assess the quality of the AmeriCorps Member experience, and providing input into site planning activities. This role serves as the “voice for the corps” while collaborating cross-departmentally with directors to identify solutions to site-wide challenges.
