Meet Community Partnerships Manager Kai Page
Meet City Year Detroit’s new Community Partnerships Manager, Kai Page! Our Community Partnerships Manager supplements the efforts of the National Recruitment and Admissions team by identifying and developing local partnerships, as well as adding capacity to local recruiting efforts, to create a strong pipeline of prospective City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members. Kai will leverage new and existing partnerships with a variety of organizations that are serving youth across Detroit and the surrounding areas as a means of increasing awareness of the opportunity to serve as a member of the City Year Detroit team for young adults ages 17-25.
What is your “why”? Why do you serve?
‘My ‘why’ are my students who taught me so much at Cody High School 2019-2020. I serve because it’s my duty to pour back into the community that raised me to be the leader that I am today. Our students deserve all the love, compassion, and energy that we can give them unconditionally.”
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
“I enjoy working out, painting and cooking.”
What quote inspires you?
“I want there to be a place in the world where people can engage in one another’s differences in a way that is redemptive, full of hope and possibility. Not this ‘In order to love you, I must make you something else.’ That’s what domination is all about, that in order to be close to you, I must possess you, remake and recast you.” – Bell Hooks, Reel to Real: Race, Sex, and Class at the Movies
If you had unlimited resources, money and time, what would you do?
“Travel to the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants around the world.”
Students say funny things. What is the best student quote you have ever heard?
“You don’t get paid enough to let us stress you out Ms. Kaila.”
Thank you Kai for the vital contributions you make to City Year Detroit and the work we do!
