Temple Teacher Residency offers City Year alums

Teaching residency

• Obtain graduate-level education credentials to teach science, mathematics, Spanish and/or special education in grades four-12
• Earn a full-time salary
• Gain hands-on teaching experience in middle or secondary school classrooms immediately at the outset of the program for an entire academic year
• Work one-on-one with a mentor teacher and receive support and professional guidance from experienced mentor teachers, coaches and professors
• Join a cohort of peers who enter the program together and will support and motivate each other during residency and beyond

Why City Year loves Temple Teacher Residency

Temple Teacher Residency is an accelerated teacher preparation program that prepares professionals and recent graduates to teach science, math, Spanish and special education in schools that can benefit from additional resources in the city of Philadelphia, grades four-12. For a full academic year, residents will learn while co-teaching with experienced mentor teachers in Philadelphia middle grades and high school classrooms. At the same time, you will take coursework at Temple University’s College of Education and Human Development to earn both a master’s in education and complete necessary courses and fieldwork for Instructional I certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at Temple Teacher Residency, and serving with City Year strengthens an applicant’s chances for being selected as a Teacher Resident.
