Each spring, City Year Washington, DC brings together more than 500 guests for the Idealism in Action Gala, a night celebrating service, impact and idealism. All proceeds from the event support City Year's work, which helps to keep more than 4,300 DC public school students in school and on track to succeed.

Lifetime of Idealism Award
This year, City Year is proud to recognize Barbara Krumsiek, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calvert Investments, Inc. with the 2014 Lifetime of Idealism Award. Please see below for more information about our honoree.

In addition to honoring Ms. Krumsiek, City Year Washington, DC will recognize the 2014 Idealists of the Year.
Idealists of the Year are employee volunteers from your corporate family who embody the spirit of idealism—seeking to improve the community, nation and world. The idealists we recognize show a commitment to improving the Washington, DC region by making a difference in the life of one person, an organization or an entire community.

About our Honoree
Barbara J. Krumsiek is Chair, President and CEO of Calvert Investments, Inc. Since joining Calvert 16 years ago, Ms. Krumsiek has advanced the company’s position as a globally recognized leader in the field of sustainable and responsible investing. As Calvert’s chief executive, Ms. Krumsiek has also been a role model and advocate for women in business. In 2004, Ms. Krumsiek led the creation of the Calvert Women’s Principles, marking the first global code of corporate conduct focused exclusively on empowering, advancing, and investing in women worldwide. Under her leadership, Calvert has also developed a strong commitment to the Greater Washington, DC community through volunteer service and financial contributions, with a focus on high impact issues such as children, education, women, and poverty. For this work, Calvert was named one of the area’s top corporate philanthropists by the Washington Business Journal.
In addition to her professional commitment to giving back, Ms. Krumsiek is also an active volunteer in her personal time. She’s a Board Member of the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation and Girl Scouts USA. She is also a former Chair of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Federal City Council. She previously served on the Boards of a number of community-oriented organizations, including the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington and Goodwill of Greater Washington.
For her lifetime commitment to improving the lives of others, City Year is proud to honor Barbara Krumsiek with the 2014 Lifetime of Idealism Award.
