At a City Year Opening Day ceremony, young leaders across the country pledge to serve, dedicating a year of their lives to making an impact in the lives of the students and communities.  Opening Day ceremonies are the literal and symbolic beginning to a new year of helping students to change their educational outcomes and their futures as a whole.

On September 19 at Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, City Year Tulsa celebrated our 50 AmeriCorps members as they officially began their year of service in Tulsa at our Inaugural Opening Day. Speakers included Ken Levit (Executive Director of George Kaiser Family Foundation), Dr. Keith Ballard (Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent), Michael Brown (CEO and Co-Founder of City Year), Tom McKeon (Vice President and Executive Director of City Year Tulsa), and City Year Tulsa founding AmeriCorps members.
