Our first #HumansOfCYTulsa of the 2019-2020 school year:
"My name is Dominic Jehs and I am a returning AmeriCorps member this school year. I graduated from McLain High School a couple years ago. ⠀
My school was understaffed and had limited resources, and I found myself often frustrated there, which made it hard to focus on learning. ⠀
I remember one day that I was so upset I acted out and refused to listen to the dean until a City Year by the name of Brittney saw me and decided to talk with me and give me some advice. ⠀
She did not have to do that. I thought I was too old for a City Year, and I wasn't one of the students she worked with, but she saw a student who needed help and decided to reach out. ⠀
That small act of kindness and care inspires me to be the leader I am today serving Tulsa students for a second year with City Year. I want to help people even when I'm not obligated to, just like Brittney helped me."⠀
Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back in our community? If you are, or know someone who is, 17-25 years old and interested in learning more about serving with City Year, contact us toaday at http://bit.ly/joincytulsa.
