MLK Day of Service: Virtual Community Summit

Join City Year Seattle/King County staff and corps for a Virtual Community Summit to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 18, 2021, City Year Seattle/ King County will celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as we always do—with service and community. This year, our annual MLK Day of Service event will bring together staff, corps, and external City Year champions in a Virtual Community Summit. As part of the day, volunteers will learn, share, and be in community with one another, while working together on an Art-in-a-Box physical service project to create encouraging learning environments for our students from the comfort of their own home.

Participating in City Year Seattle’s MLK Day of Service “Virtual Community Summit” is an opportunity to show your commitment to Seattle students, education equity, and community.

How to Participate:

Step 1: Register to attend!

Step 2: We will send you a small package in the mail with supplies and instructions for the Service Day.

Step 3: On January 18, login to the virtual event and have your box ready.

Step 4: From 9:30 – 12:30, City Year staff and AmeriCorps Members will lead you through instructions to complete a virtual art project from the comfort and safety of your own home. We’ll also engage you in dialogue and learning around social justice, City Year’s work, and Martin Luther King, Jr. You will help us paint small sections of a large mural we’ll hang in a Seattle Public School when students return to in person learning.

Step 4: A return label will be included for you to place the art contents back in the box and return your work to City Year Seattle. From there, our AmeriCorps Members will construct a mural and donate it to one of our school partners!
