The Clyde L. Fischer Middle School City Year team is fortunate and appreciative to be sponsored by the San Francisco 49ers Foundation Team. Having the 49ers Foundation as a school sponsor has some amazing perks. For example, on October 9th the San Francisco 49ers Youth Football department and City Year AmeriCorps Members coordinated a youth training camp for students enrolled in the City Year’s Expanded Learning Time Program at Fischer Middle School. Over 60 students learned the correct techniques of numerous football skills, which included catching, throwing, and tackling. More importantly, our students loved the lessons of the importance of hydration during physical activity. AmeriCorps Members assisted the 49ers Youth Camp by running individual drills for the students. Participating students also received a 49ers t-shirt and tickets to the Friday Night Lights high school football games at the newly built Levi's Stadium.

Many of the students had never been taught the correct way to throw a football and were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn football fundamentals from professionals. A few student testimonials are presented below:

“My experience in the 49ers camp was inspiring. It was inspiring because it was really cool. The coaches gave instructions clearly and they were really creative about everything. My favorite drills were when we had to throw the football and catch the football...I liked it because we were active, running, and tackling.”

“My experience with the 49ers training camp was awesome due to all the exercise. I'm thankful they came because it inspired me to maybe work with 49ers one day. My experience was super terrific because I learned how football players train.”

                                                      Adrian (7th grade student)

“What I liked about the 49ers training camp was everything. We got to throw the ball like a quarterback, run like a running back, catch like a receiver, and do other drills. After everyone was done, some people got 49ers necklaces for answering questions right and everyone got tickets to a game at the 49ers' stadium.”

                                                      Christian (6th grade student)

“My experience during the 49ers camp day was fun. We did a lot of things like throw a football at a specific object. We also went through a little course and at the end of the course we tackled a dummy. While I was at the 49ers camp, we got to run plays that the 49ers do while they practice...As you can see, there was a lot to do at the 49ers day camp and we got a couple of prizes.”
