San Antonio is a big city with a small town feel. The culture of the city is very friendly and welcoming.  There are many festivals and events, such as Fiesta Season, a 10 day Mardi Gras Mexican heritage party. San Antonio is full of outdoor beauty and attractions such as the Natural Bridge Caverns, the Alamo, the Riverwalk, Market Square, and many local parks.  San Antonio is also home to numerous professional sports teams and amusement parks.

Average rental cost for a 2 bedroom apartment is around $780. AmeriCorps typically have roommates and live in Tobin Hill, King William, South Town, Medical Center, Downtown, Alamo Heights, and Castle Hills.

AmeriCorps members receive a free VIA Metropolitan Transit bus pass to use for the year. The buses are outfitted with air conditioning, heat, and Wifi, and bus locations can be tracked using Google Maps. Due to the city being very car heavy, AmeriCorps members are encouraged to bring personal vehicles if they have one.
