The 13th Annual Playground Build is quickly approaching! The Rotary Club of San Antonio Kingdom for Kids, City Year San Antonio, and hundreds of other community members are joining forces to build the children of St. Peter-St. Josephs Children’s Home and P.F. Stewart Elementary School a playground they can cherish for generations to come. The event spans from Friday, November 14th (prep day) to Saturday, November 15th (service day) from 8:00am-4:00pm.
This year we are expanding the reach of Playground Build by taking on two project sites. Our first site is the St. Peter-St. Josephs Children’s Home. The mission of St. PJ’s is to provide children and families a safe, nurturing community to heal body, mind, and spirit, shape successful adults, and break the cycle of abuse and neglect. Our second site is P.F. Stewart Elementary School. The mission of P.F. Stewart Elementary School is to create a safe, clean, drug free environment; where respect, responsibility, and high achievement are valued. These two sites lack infrastructure for child play including playgrounds, basketball courts, and safe, educational, and inspirational elements that could make students feel excited to be outdoors. The Rotary Club of San Antonio Kingdom for Kids and City Year are combining our idealism and altruism to work with these institutions towards bettering the environment for our community's children.
Last year’s Playground Build brought hundreds of volunteers together to accomplish the installation of a new playground, landscape rejuvenation, and several beautification projects ranging from building picnic tables to painting a basketball court. With both similar and new tasks awaiting us this year one thing is for sure, City Year San Antonio is getting FIRED UP to work towards bettering the environment for our community’s children. Help spread the excitement about Playground Build by using the hashtag #pgb2014 and, as always, #makebetterhappen.
