City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership, and social entrepreneurship. Together, these essential, interconnected and nonpartisan strategies can serve as the civic foundation for a strong, active and responsive democracy. This year, City Year Sacramento’s Big Day of Giving goal is to raise $15,000 which will allow us to add another yellow jacket to further our mission.

"Be the person you needed when you were younger."

Any strong relationship is built on the virtues of trust and consistency. The relationship between mentor and student is no different. That's why our City Year AmeriCorps members show up, every single day, through hardships and wins, for the students who need them most. Our near-peer AmeriCorps members are uniquely equipped to connect with students - their dreams, their fears, their hopes - because they share similar backgrounds and cultures. Students see their City Year mentors and see themselves, helping them build a strong sense of who they are, why they matter, and who they want to become. City Year mentors empower students to have agency and embolden them to dream without restraint.

Here's how each dollar amount can support us and our work in schools:

A gift of $25 = One hour of individual mentoring & tutoring for one student who has fallen behind.

A gift of $50 = Painting materials to create a welcoming learning environment at a high-need school.

A gift of $100 = One day of in-class academic and behavior coaching support for an entire classroom.

A gift of $250 = One day of leadership development training for a team of AmeriCorps members.

A gift of $500 = One week of after school enrichment programming for 25 students.
