City Year Sacramento is excited to celebrate the graduation of the 2014-2015 AmeriCorps members who have dedicated the last year to service. With the support of this year’s Graduation Sponsor, Sutter Health, the ceremony will be held at the Guild Theater in Oak Park on Friday, June 12th.
Family and friends will join together in honor of the 60 AmeriCorps members who have worked tirelessly throughout the year with their students. The ceremony on Friday will take a look back at the accomplishments these young idealist have had in the last year and how far they have come from their very first day with City Year Sacramento.
“I have had the opportunity to watch each group of AmeriCorps members graduate throughout the last three years,” said Clanci Cochran, Development Operations Manager, “and each time it is an exciting opportunity to reflect on their personal and professional growth.”
During the school year, City Year AmeriCorps members provide whole school support and work with their targeted small groups every day in the areas of attendance, behavior and course performance.
Throughout the last three years, City Year Sacramento has helped partner schools maintain a student attendance average of 95 percent and has also helped to reduce instances of behavioral suspensions by an average of 30 percent. Of the students our AmeriCorps members tutor, 80 percent have demonstrated improvement in their academic performance. Their individualized attention helps students stay on track to graduate high school.
The successes in the classroom wouldn’t be possible without the support of each group of AmeriCorps members, their dedication to education and the community champions, such as Sutter Health, who help to make City Year happen each year.
