As a jumping off point for the gold rush, Sacramento still has much of its culture rooted in its history. Sacramento offers a range of exciting educational and historic attractions such as the Zoo, State Capital, which offers a park and museum, the Governor’s Mansion, and the Railroad Museum. Historic Old Sacramento, located on waterfront, features great restaurants and local shops. San Francisco, Reno, Yosemite, and Redwoods are all within a few hours by car.

Average rental cost is about $450 per AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps members typically have 1-2 roommates. Most AmeriCorps members live in South Sac, Oak Park, East Sac, and Land Park.

AmeriCorps members receive a free monthly Sacramento Regional Transit District pass for the bus and light rail system for the year. While Sacramento is a heavy driving city, getting around using public transportation is feasible. Sacramento is also very flat and bike friendly
