Summer Leadership Academy

Last week, City Year Providence welcomed rising Providence 6th graders to the first ever Summer Leadership Academy. The program was instated as a way to address summer learning loss so students will enter middle school on track and ready to learn.

Read Across America!

Read Across America is a reading awareness and motivation program that gives children around the country a chance to celebrate reading. The big celebration is on March 2, in honor of the birthday of the beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. As part of the festivities, our ELA coordinator, Bethany Reppert, organized a week full of events with the hope that students would gain a greater appreciation of both Dr. Seuss and reading.

In a world where Black and Brown lives are threatened and topics such as racial inequality are taboo in schools, Ms. Kelly, an 8th grade English teacher at Roger Williams Middle School, challenges the status quo and I am lucky enough to be a part of her classroom.

A Beloved Community at the West End Community Center

When reflecting on MLK Day and my time with City Year, I realized how much service has grown to be an important part of my life. While on this day, others get a chance to catch up on sleep or celebrate another day off from work or school, I was honored to spend this day serving the community I live in.
