Your stipend and local benefits

Learn more about your biweekly stipend and the various benefits awarded to City Year Los Angeles AmeriCorps members – both during and after service.

Plan & prepare

By prioritizing and planning, you can live in Los Angeles on your City Year stipend. The information and resources below will help you prepare for your year (or two) of service.

Your stipend

As a student success coach serving in City Year Los Angeles, you’ll receive a taxed, biweekly living stipend of $1,190. School day learning coaches serving in Los Angeles will receive a taxed, biweekly living stipend of $595. You’ll receive your stipend via direct deposit every other Friday upon your time sheets being submitted on time and approved. Your manager will provide training on this process.

The stipend is designed to cover basic living expenses. Budgeting is key to managing your personal finances while living on the stipend, so do your research on supplementary income and localized benefits available to you.

Check out our budgeting chapter inside last year’s CYLA orientation guide here.

National benefits

In addition to your stipend, you’ll also receive health insurance, access to Employee Assistance and Talkspace Therapy programs, as well as relocation support.
