Your service year will be challenging. Outlined below are the ways that City Year Detroit will prepare and support you in your work this year and beyond.

The power of teamwork and collaboration

We value dialogue and creating environments where our differences are supported and celebrated. Your experience will be most rewarding when you have a growth mindset to learn about yourself, your students, partners and the world around us.

Learning & Development at City Year Detroit will include:

  • intervention curriculum training in partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District;
  • relationship building, social-emotional support and tutoring strategy training;
  • diversity, belonging, inclusion and equity workshops. Through deliberate listening, learning and self-examination, we seek to work in partnership with our communities, AmeriCorps members, staff and alumni to put what we are learning into practice;
  • collaborative networking with peers doing similar service across the city of Detroit (in programs such as Grade Level Cohorts, Affinity Groups, Coordinator Role Meetings);
  • local and national guest speakers;
  • career services and networking opportunities.
