Kicking off a Year of Service
City Year Orlando kicked off the 2020-2021 school year and celebrated the new class of AmeriCorps members through a week-long social media campaign called, “Opening Week.” This unique online celebration brought together team sponsors, board members, champions as well as family and friends of AmeriCorps members to celebrate the start of service.
Opening Week, sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal, was held Monday, August 31, 2020 through Friday, September 4, 2020. Each day, City Year Orlando featured photos and videos of service to celebrate the 80 AmeriCorps members committing a year of service to supporting thousands of students in eight OCPS partner schools. City Year Orlando staff visited each team for a socially distant in-person celebration to deliver party packs and treats to appreciate the incredible young leaders and their commitment to support students all-day, every day, all-year.
City Year is uniquely positioned to support students during time and help them navigate their education journey to ensure they continue receiving the education they deserve along with the individualized attention they need for years to come. City Year Orlando AmeriCorps members are excited and ready to serve full-time as near-peer tutors and mentors to students in both in-person and virtual classrooms.
