Graduation Recap: The Spirit of City Year
Every year at Graduation, when our AmeriCorps members mark the completion of their service year, Comcast NBCUniveral announces the winner of the Spirit of City Year Award, an honor that goes to a peer-nominated AmeriCorps member who exemplifies City Year values. On June 14 this year, the room erupted with cheers when the winner was announced to be Julie Cusano. Here are her remarks from the event.
From Humble Beginnings to Six Strong
“All of us may have come from different parts of the U.S., backgrounds, and education, but we all found a common ground that made us closer.” Hear more from AmeriCorps member Angel Lee on how her team grew and flourished this year, shaping each other into stronger leaders.
My Greatest Teachers
“On the first day of school, I was not expecting my students to teach me much this year. I mean, there was so much I had to teach them, like fractions and how a sentence works. Besides the different Fortnite dances and what the latest meme was, wasn’t I the one supposed to be teaching them?”
Lunching, Learning and Leading
“Growing up, I seldom enjoyed a meal without using a placemat. I vividly remember studying my multiplication fact placemat whilst munching on a bowl of Cheerios before departing for school. I used this enduring childhood memory as inspiration for my Leadership Lunch.” Read on to hear more from Nadia Rose El-Erian on how she sets leadership goals in her SEL lunch group!
