State Commission

The New York State Commission on National and Community Service was established in 1994 by an Executive Order of the Governor, and administers programs funded by the National Community Service Trust Act of 1993, including AmeriCorps State and AmeriCorps Education Awards programs. The Commission seeks to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering in New York State.

Towerbrook: TowerBrook, a sponsor of City Year London, began their partnership with City Year New York in 2012. Sponsoring City Year teams on both sides of the Atlantic, TowerBrook has provided opportunities for AmeriCorps members, students and teachers to interact and share best practices. Each Spring, TowerBrook has provided professional development for a group of High School students at their service day. A partner since 2008, American Express supports the start and middle of the year trainings for City Year New York AmeriCorps members, preparing them for their year of service. Bain and Company: Bain & Company was a founding sponsor of City Year’s pilot program in Boston in 1988 and a founding sponsor of the City Year New York site in 2003. The firm strategically focuses on supporting City Year’s growth to become the leading youth service organization in the US. At City Year New York, Bain & Company has played a critical role assisting the site in our strategic deployment within the City. Comcast NBCUniversal: City Year Inc. has named Comcast NBCUniversal a National Strategic Partner, the highest sponsorship level afforded to a corporate sponsor. The multi-million dollar agreement supports various national and local events, conferences, and leadership development. In addition to this commitment, Comcast NBCUniversal is sponsoring 12 teams in 11 cities across the country. This year in New York City, Comcast NBCU sponsors the team serving at PS 75 in the South Bronx.

Credit Suisse: Credit Suisse has been a partner of City Year New York for nine years. In addition to sponsoring teams in East Harlem, Credit Suisse has been a major supporter of service days with City Year New York because of their dedication to employee engagement. This year, Credit Suisse is the Presenting Sponsor of the MLK Day of Service, which mobilizes over 600 volunteers to beautify a school and unify the school community. CSX sponsors teams of City Year AmeriCorps members in 14 locations and completes service projects throughout the country with Care Force. Harry’s: Harry’s is City Year New York’s “Give a Shave” partner because they share a common mission of preparing people from all walks of life for professional and personal success. Harry’s and City Year New York announced their partnership in 2013 when Harry’s committed to donating 1% of their sales, and their employees committed to volunteering 1% of their time, to grow City Year New York’s impact. Microsoft: Microsoft sponsors Diplomas Now schools in New York, Chicago, Seattle and Washington DC, which helps City Year reach an unprecedented number of students in high-poverty schools nationwide and ensures the right students receive the right interventions at the right time. After partnering as one of City Year’s National In-Kind Sponsors for the past 13 years, Microsoft has become one of City Year’s newest National Leadership Sponsors. Microsoft will continue its in-kind support of City Year by providing over $12.3 million worth of software to enhance our IT infrastructure.
