"I think City Year can really help kids learn a lot. They help us not worry about certain problems by helping keep our school safe. If we need help, they will help us. They're like teachers who came from everywhere and they are very brave and helpful. I want to be just like you when I grow up! City Years are the best.”

"Someone that helps others is City Year because they always help you do your homework and make sure it is right. Also, when you are upset they will talk to you and tell you what to do. When I am feeling blue, City Year makes me feel sunny."
- 5th grade student
“I think it is good to have somebody else in the classroom because the teachers are kind of busy, and City Year can go help the students so they do not have to wait to get help from the teachers. It’s also good because if you are having trouble and you are afraid to tell the teacher, you can go to someone from City Year that you trust. You can tell them your issues, and they will always help you out.”

"City Year has been an indispensable addition to our school. They are one of the main reasons our students have made such gains this year. Not only have they helped the students grow academically, but also socially and emotionally."

City Year is proud of the many successful alumni in our network. Evelyn Garcia ’14, ’15 was the keynote speaker at Opening Day last year. She shared a recent exchange with her friend, a former teammate, during which they reflected on receiving their first red jackets three years earlier. The item remains connected to all that they have accomplished since and some of the most cherished and amazing people in their lives.
During Mid-Year Summit, each corps members is asked to share to whom or what they dedicate their year of service. Jazmin Johnson, a second year AmeriCorps member, reflects on this experience.
