Red Jacket Weekend serves as an opportunity for City Year alumni to gather and reunite. This year, the reunion weekend was jam-packed with events from Friday, September 15th to Sunday, September 17th. To kick off the weekend, a group of City Year alumni competed in the annual Reach the Beach relay race and fundraiser.

On Saturday afternoon, alumni reconnected with their City Year roots by engaging in a service project at a local park. Projects included brush clearing, beautifying a picnic area, and painting a wooden fence. Jessica Stern, a CYNH VISTA, said, “It was a wonderful way to meet alumni that I had never gotten to connect with before. I got an insight into what I could do after City Year.” After their hard work, some alumni treated themselves to well-deserved ice cream. That evening, alumni gathered for an enticing evening of trivia at a local restaurant.

The following morning, a workshop was held to discuss the importance of raising children with social justice and civic issues in mind. Alumni chatted about how to instill the values of diversity, Ubuntu, justice, inclusivity, and kindness in the next generation. The final event of Red Jacket Weekend featured brunch and a “State of the Site” update from Pawn, CYNH’s Executive Director.

The purpose of these reunion events is to keep alumni involved and engaged with everything that goes on at City Year New Hampshire while also allowing them to reconnect with fellow alums. In total, this weekend drew in about 70 City Year alumni. Next year, City Year New Hampshire will host another Red Jacket Weekend in an effort to continue building the Beloved Community with the ever-expanding alumni community.
