5 reasons why L.A. is a great place to live

a sprawling view of Los Angeles at night

Enjoy Beautiful Weather All Year

They say it never rains in southern California — maybe it’s time you found out if it’s really true! Its location between the coast and mountains helps to produce the perfect climate. If you don’t like extremes, Los Angeles is a great fit for you as the average high temperature is 75 degrees and there’s sun about 300 days a year. Living here, you’ll always find a good reason to get outside and enjoy the sunshine!

L.A. Is One of the Most Diverse Cities in the US

Los Angeles is one of those cities that really represents the American “melting pot.” In the greater L.A. area, over 140 nationalities are represented and nearly 100 different languages are spoken. Living in Los Angeles, you’ll see that many nationalities even have their own neighborhoods. Spend the day discovering Little Armenia, Little Tokyo, Filipinotown, Koreatown and much more. Living in L.A. provides the perfect opportunity to explore the world without having to leave the country!

L.A. is a Great Place to Get an Education

This city is serious about education! With 106 colleges within 50 miles of Los Angeles, if you’re looking to start an undergraduate career or continue your education in a graduate program, there is no shortage of options! Consistently top ranked schools like UCLA, Loyola Marymount Universityand Pepperdine University are among just a few of the amazing colleges and universities in the area!

The Sports Fanatic in You Will Feel Right at Home

Home to two basketball teams, the LA Clippers and the championship winning Lakers, the six-time World Series winning Dodgers, and two football teams, Los Angeles is perfect for anyone who loves the thrill of competitive sports. It has professional teams for the most popular sports as well as a number of minor league and semi-pro teams (roller derby, anyone?). Be sure to check out a Rugby or Ultimate Frisbee game if you’re looking for something outside of the NBA, MLB, or NFL!

We would argue, however, that there are thousands of even better reasons to move to L.A. for a year or two.

There are over 600,000 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District who need and deserve our support in order to thrive. You could be part of a dedicated and talented AmeriCorps team that shows up for students every day, making a difference in their lives and in their futures.
