Jeesenia Zavala

Hey y'all! I am the Team Leader at Casimir Pulaski High School. Our team at Pulaski has been working hard to continue establishing ourselves with purpose, pride, discipline, and spirit at our school, and it has been a pleasure to serve our students.

Hometown: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, born and raised with stops in Mississippi, Texas, and Nebraska

Hobbies:  I enjoy looking at memes and experiencing new adventures with others

Favorite City Year value: Ubuntu

Why I serve: I serve for those who have empowered me so that I can empower others.  This includes giving me a voice when I felt as if I had none. I was born and raised in Milwaukee and I wanted to give back to the community that raised me.

Amanda Bowman

My name is Amanda Bowman and I am the proud Team Leader on the M&I Foundation Team at Hopkins Lloyd Community School.  I look forward to getting this year started on a positive and energetic note.  I really enjoy exploring Milwaukee and experiencing all it has to offer.  I would say that I’m a goofy jokester but when it comes to work with our students, I am all about them and get work done. #Excellence

Hometown: Monmouth, Illinois

Hobbies: Discovering new music and seeing bands live, actively searching for brunch spots

Favorite City Year value: Students first, collaboration always

Why I serve statement: I serve for our students because they deserve an equitable, educational experience and deserve a constant energetic and positive presence in our schools.

Joshua R. Moore

My name is Joshua R. Moore and I am the PROUD Team Leader at Rufus King International Middle School, and serve as the PROUD External and Events Coordinator Team Lead.  I was born in Charleston, South Carolina and my family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin when I was about 8 weeks old.  I love music, it gives me a sense of peace, serenity and it’s very therapeutic.  I’m a drummer and a bass player so when I make music, it’s like making art with my hands and feet.  While I’m playing, it’s like living in my own world where it’s nothing but me and the music I make. I’ve been playing drums since I was about 3 years old and I just started learning to play bass about 2-3 years ago.

Hometown: Charleston, South Carolina

Hobbies:  Football, running, playing drums, Netflix and eating

Favorite City Year value: Ubuntu

I serve because:  I would love to be a part of something that will leave a positive impact in the world.  Becoming a part of a cause that is bigger than myself is something I want to do.  I believe that each scholar we work with has the ability to change the world in ways that we cannot fathom and with the right guidance from City Year we can help them do that.

Send Jeesenia, Amanda, and Joshua positive thoughts and good luck wishes for the rest of the year, and encourage them to continue powerfully leading CityYear Milwaukee, here!
