This year, City Year L.A. launched a Restorative Justice training program for its 309 AmeriCorps members through a partnership with the California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ) in support of the Los Angeles Unified School District

According to CCEJ:

  • Students who are suspended are 3 times more likely to drop out of school, and more likely to be incarcerated.
  • Schools enforce overly punitive discipline policies against students of color and special needs students more than others.

Watch our staff describe how this new training aligns with our existing practices and how our AmeriCorps members are looking forward to implementing its key principles into their service.
