In a world of negativity, City Year is such a bright light of positivity.
We are proud to introduce Michael Walsh as our incoming City Year Los Angeles Board Chair. Michael, the Managing Director of the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch, is a longstanding City Year champion and board member. He assumes his new duties as chair this month.
“Michael’s passion, smarts and dedication to helping our city’s lowest performing schools makes him ideally suited to serve as Chair,” said our Executive Director Mary Jane Stevenson.
Michael succeeds City Year L.A. Co-founder and Chair Andrew Hauptman, who has led the Board since City Year L.A.’s inception in 2007. Hauptman will remain active on the L.A. board as Chair Emeritus and a national trustee of City Year, Inc.
AmeriCorps member Jett Bohanan (CYLA '16) recently interviewed Michael about his new role as chair. Watch the highlight video below to learn more about Michael's interest in education, passion for service, and why City Year makes him "proud to be American."
