Melisa Cavazos is the Community Affairs Program Manager at the AEG/STAPLES Center Foundation. AEG partnered with City Year to host a service day in December 2014 at South Park Elementary School. The event was part of AEG’s Season of Giving campaign that encourages employee volunteerism.
What was your favorite party of the service day? Seeing my colleagues excited about community engagement and working hard to make a positive and lasting impact on South Park Elementary School.
What do you feel employees took away from the event? An appreciation for being given the opportunity to take time out of their work day to make a difference in the community.
What was the most meaningful aspect of the event to you? Seeing how appreciative school administrators, teachers, and students were as they walked past the murals and saw the transformation throughout the day.
What makes a City Year service day unique? City Year makes a service day special in that they bring a deep understanding of the relationship between schools and companies. They know how to navigate through this relationship and organize the day to be fun and effective.
What was your favorite City Year-ism from the day? The spirit break. It got our employees excited and brought everyone together to get pumped up about giving back to our community!
