City Year Kansas City launched in August 2015 on two campuses in Kansas City, MO,(Central Middle School in the Kansas City Public School District and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Charter School). This year, the site has grown to having 50 AmeriCorps members serving in three additional KCPS campuses: Central Academy of Excellence, Northeat Middle School, and Northeast High School.

City Year AmeriCorps members will work alongside talented teachers, administrators and other professionals to help improve student attendance, behavior and course performance. Research shows these indicators predict a student’s likelihood of graduating from high school. City Year provides a holistic portfolio of researched-based academic interventions, extended learning programs and activities that foster a school-wide climate of achievement.  

Over the course of this year, we will measure our success in the following areas:

Improved academics

  • Teachers who state AmeriCorps members improved their students’ overall academic performance.Students who improved by one grade level or better

Better behavior

  • Teachers who state AmeriCorps members created an effective, positive learning environment in their classrooms.

Improved Attendance

  • Continued growth in Overall Average Daily Attendance
