Why did you choose to join the City Year Team?

For me, what sets City Year apart from other places I've worked or other non-profits I considered is that the culture and values transcend the work that we do and seep down into our souls; making us not only better employees or volunteers but better people as well. The work that we do with City Year is just as important as the work City Year does in us, if we allow it to.

What is your favorite City Year culture piece?

I really appreciate the power tools! As simple as they may seem, they really do make a big difference in improving communication, meetings, and overall effectiveness.

If happiness was the national currency, what job would make you rich?

My marriage and my family are my life's work. I would make a killing as a stay at home mom.

What is your favorite book?

All time favorite: "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison

Current favorite: "The Autobiography of Assata Shakur" by Assata Shakur

What is your personal motto?

Live simply!

What is on your bucket list?

  • Create a family tree that goes back as far as we can get..maybe even trace it to the country in Africa my family came from.
  • Visit the Greenwood district in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as “Black Wall Street.”
  • Take a train somewhere..anywhere!
  • Own a restaurant or bed & breakfast with my husband.
  • Read 12 books in a year!
