Celebrating Women’s Leadership: Highlights from the City Year Washington DC Ripples of Impact Women’s Leadership Luncheon

As the world came together to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2024, City Year Washington DC proudly hosted the Ripples of Impact Women’s Leadership Luncheon, honoring the remarkable achievements and contributions of women in our community. This year’s event was particularly special as we paid tribute to Susan Berger, an esteemed executive board member and a steadfast supporter of City Year Washington DC for over 20 years.

The luncheon featured a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Quanda Allen, a Financial Services & Community Leader, showcasing the diverse perspectives of influential women leaders. Dr. Tashion Macon, President & Chief Strategy Officer at Strut AGENCY; Courtney Peterson, Senior Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer, and Chief Human Resources Officer at Edison Electric Institute; and Kimberly Harris, Director of Community Health & Social Impact at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, shared their insights and experiences, inspiring all attendees with their wisdom and passion for driving positive change.

The event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, including CareFirst, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Edison Electric Institute, Black Empowered, CSX, BNSF Railway, The Duberstien Group Inc., The Decision Project, and National Journal. Their commitment to advancing our mission and empowering women is truly commendable.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed Host Committee Members: Quanda Allen and Sarah Berger Sandelius from The Ability Challenge; Emily Fisher from Edison Electric Institute; Leslie Funderburk Rush from Truist; Katie Hanna from Concrete Rose; Shannon Jeffries from NCFP; Ieesha Johnson from The Decision Project; Ivana Sreckov from SSA; Marie Sylla Dixon from Albertsons; Brandee Tate from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Karla Whiting from Edison Electric Institute; and Megan Wilson from Hogan Lovells. Their dedication and support played a pivotal role in the success of this event.

The Ripples of Impact Women’s Leadership Luncheon served as a powerful reminder of the importance of gender equality and the significant impact that women leaders have on our communities. As we continue to strive for progress and inclusivity, let us celebrate the achievements of women today and every day, and work together to create a more equitable and just world for all.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring women’s leadership and making a difference in the lives of young people in our community.
