Is it an instrument? A game? A car? What is Ubuntu? Our AmeriCorps team at Roger Q. Mills Elementary School decided to find out what some of their students and faculty thought about Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is one of City Year's 10 Core Values. Our Core Values represent the deepest beliefs and highest aspirations of our organization and our mission. Every day we strive to ensure that these values reflect our culture of idealism, inspire our actions, and inform all of our decisions. They serve as our guide, and they constantly empower us to stay true to ourselves through changing times as we work to achieve our mission of keeping more students in school and on track to graduation. Here are some of the values that we work into our everyday lives:

  1. Service to a Cause Greater than Self
  2. Students First, Collaboration Always
  3. Belief in the Power of Young People
  4. Social Justice for All
  5. Level Five Leadership
  6. Empathy
  7. Inclusivity
  8. Ubuntu
  9. Teamwork
  10. Excellence
